Top 10 Cleveland Twitter Follows for 2012!

by Joe Rath

This is my failure at avoiding list-making at the end of the year. I’ve loved mixing it up with leaders and innovators in my particular profession, but it’s the Clevelanders that make Twitter worthwhile and keep me checking my feed a few times a day. Here are the first 10 I would follow if I started my account today:

1. @joecimperman – The Councilman blew up on Twitter in 2011 by pouring his Cleveland pride into his feed, going from a few hundred followers at the beginning of the year to over 2000.  The best part about following Joe Cimperman on Twitter is trying to figure out how one man can be in 100 different places at once.

2. @inthecircle – If the key to a successful social media campaign for business, or in this case a CDC, is engaging then University Circle is definitely one that executes. You’ll always know what is going on in their Cleveland neighborhood, but it is the human element behind the account that you appreciate – keeping it conversational!

3. @tweetmeslow (Steve Lorenz) – The unofficial Twitter feed for Kamm’s Corners! Joe Cimperman is to Cleveland what Steve Lorenz is to Kamm’s Corners. The love and pride Steve has for his neighborhood shows in his Twitter account every single day and Kamm’s is better off for having him as an advocate.

4. @GLBC_Cleveland – An easy follow here for one of our favorite Cleveland anchors, Great Lakes Brewing Company! Quizzes, give-a-ways, conversations, and events – tweeting everyday to brighten up your home feed.  Great Lakes does an awesome job with social media, especially on Twitter.

5. @poiseinparma (Alicia Hansen) – Safe to say any Clevelander on Twitter would recognize the poiseinparma handle. Among many other things, Alicia is an advocate for growing Cleveland’s social media circles and most importantly helped welcome me into the ever-growing Cleveland Twitter community! A must-follow for Clevelanders new to it. Talk to her, she’s nice!

6. @techczar (Michael DeAloia) – Cleveland’s former senior executive for technology development tweets to the world on music, photography, food, his blog, and all things Cleveland.  And what’s more, he’s a published author! I just downloaded his eBook on seven examples of Cleveland’s historic architecture called, “Lost Cleveland.”

 7. @jnomina (jnomina) – One of the funniest feeds in Cleveland! Check out his blog and join our hero in downtown Cleveland while he tries to figure out life as a white collar redneck.

8. @ThomasBBruce – “Karate choppin my way into your life.” Keeping with the comedy theme, a good friend of mine that will probably hate to be on this or any list (actually it doesn’t matter, he’ll never read this) but might have the best new Twitter feed in Cleveland.  Twitter is a perfect fit for some personalities, definitely true here.

9. @CoWorkCleveland – Opening in 2012, an awesome new start-up located in Ohio City. I’m pumped to check out their space and happy to follow them on Twitter. It’s going to be a great year for Cowork Cleveland! Learn more here and check out their Facebook page here (with some new pictures).

10. @CleFoodandBrews – Passion for beer and passion for Cleveland, @CleFoodandBrews writes two blogs and seemingly drinks more beer than any person I’ve met in my entire life.  It’s no surprise that Brad has over 2300 followers!

Happy tweeting and Happy New Year!
